Wood as a basic building material is indispensable for building cities and villages, roads, and farms. It can be harvested automatically long-term from forests, hills, and jungles within the city range. Settlers can also cut down forests and jungles on any tile to obtain a larger quantity of wood, but this will totally destroy the terrain, and no wood could be harvested from this tile again. It can help to solve a temporary lack of wood but should not be part of a long-term strategy.
